The first year of the ECODIGITAL project saw the active involvement of the scientific Coordinator, Prof. Simone Scagliarini, and the co-teacher, Dr. Virginia Remondino, primarily in the course on Digital Economy Law – Jean Monnet Module, which was attended by about thirty students of the Master’s degree in Data Analysis for Economics and Management. The first one, held on March 3, 2025, was given by Prof. Franco Pizzetti, Emeritus of Constitutional Law at the University of Turin and former President of the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali), on the topic Lights and Shadows of European Union Regulation in the Digital Age.

Costanza Matteuzzi, Legal Manager of Women4Cyber, an association with the aim of promoting, encouraging, and supporting women’s participation in the field of cybersecurity at the European level, speaking on the topic of The Economic and Legal Relevance of Cybersecurity in the Data-Driven Economy.

The conclusion of the course was entrusted, on April 15, 2025, to the lectio magistralis of Prof. Giuliano Amato, President Emeritus of the Constitutional Court and, before that, inter alia, President of the Italian Competition Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato), on the topic Personal Data Protection and Competition Enforcement. This enabled an interdisciplinary debate on a topic of great interest also to computer technicians focusing on the digital economy.

A similar interdisciplinary value, but directed towards the context of pedagogy through digital tools, was had by the event held on the same day, involving Prof. Simone Scagliarini in dialogue with Prof. Alberto Levi, of the Surgical, Medical, Dental Department – Reggio Emilia site, on the topic of Personal Data Protection in Digital Education Contexts.

The discussion then extended outside the academic sphere with the seminar A Digital Currency for the Digital Economy? Present and Future of the Digital Euro, which took place on June 5, 2025, with Dr. Matteo Bursi of the Institute of International Affairs (IAI) in Rome.

With reference to the project action aimed at disseminating knowledge of European legislation on the digital economy among consumers and businesses, especially SMEs, on October 16, 2025, as part of the Smart Life Festival, Prof. Costanza Nardocci of the University of Milan spoke with Prof. Simone Scagliarini on the topic of Artificial Intelligence and Individual Rights: A Balance to be Built, in a public meeting that saw high attendance.

Lastly, on November 25, 2025, a public seminar was held in Florence, in collaboration with Federconsumatori Toscana and Unicoop Firenze, on the topic The Legal Protection of the Consumer in the Digital Economy, featuring talks by Prof. Simone Scagliarini and Prof. Giacomo Menegus, researcher and course co-teacher starting from the academic year 2025/26.
